Our modern buildings and picturesque grounds are
the result of a devastating fire on August 25 1997 when the school
was completely destroyed. The buildings and grounds have been developed
and maintained in excellent order since moving into the new buildings on
August 25 1999. |
|
As you make your way through the entrance doors
you find the General Office on your left where our helpful office staff
can assist you and direct you to our security folder and badges, required
to be worn by all visitors to the school.

The school foyer contains many instances of the
school’s culture with the display of its student leadership team (School
Captains, House Captains, Junior School Councillors, Environmental
Captains and Red Earth Representatives). Information concerning
Kilsyth’s Values Program is also evident. Our School House banners are
displayed as well as Interschool Sport flags and After School Basketball
Premiership and Runner’s up flags. |
|
Kilsyth has been designed differently to schools
of the past featuring high roofed corridors and skylights. The corridors
have large windows to allow natural light into the classrooms.
The corridors have also been designed with large windows to add
light into the school and easy vision of the school ground.
Corridors are wide to allow for easy movement throughout the
school.

The school uniform is functional in black and red
incorporating Kilsyth’s emblem on the front. Continuing a tradition, a
student-designed jacket is available for all Year 6 students to wear. |
| Kilsyth Primary School takes its role of ensuring
a safe environment for its students by ensuring all staff are Level 1 or 2
first aid trained as well as annual updating of their CPR training. We
maintain a well-equipped first aid room for our students. |

Kilsyth possesses a modern library and computer
laboratory that is used by all levels and teachers. All students develop
their Information and Communications Technology skills using software such
as Kidpix, Kahootz and many Microsoft applications, as well as digital
cameras and scanners. Technology
is used extensively in the school’s programs to enrich each student’s
access to learning. |
| Our classrooms have been designed to allow
teachers the greatest flexibility to create the best learning environment
for their students with moveable walls and mini computer laboratories. |
|
|
|
Our Visual Arts room allows every student access
to an excellent learning environment utilising a wide range of materials
and activities to develop their abilities. |
|
A well resourced Reading Recovery area where two
trained Reading Recovery staff conduct their program each day. Reading
Recovery is for students in Year One who have experienced difficulties in
developing effective reading strategies.
|
 |
|
|
Our Prep rooms have been designed by their staff
to provide a cohesive, stimulating program using modern aids and equipment
to give every student an exciting start to their primary school years. The
stimulating environment provides the Prep students with a safe, friendly
learning area in which to enjoy every day. |
| The Prep/One play equipment has been placed
outside the Prep rooms to give the Preps an area of their own where they
can play safely with their peers. Yard duty teachers supervise the
playground regularly. Their Year 6 buddies may visit the Preps at any
time. |
|
|
|
The centre courtyard has been designed to allow
for passive play with seats and sand pit areas. Teachers supervise all
areas of the school grounds continually at recess times. |
| Classrooms are bright and evidence of the
‘Thinking Curriculum’ is everywhere. Teaching and Learning is one of
the School Charter Priorities. Staff have engaged in many Professional
Development activities concerning the further development of this valuable
enrichment to the curriculum. |

Indonesian is Kilsyth Primary School’s Language
Other Than English. A specialist teacher delivers a well-planned program
to all grades. The students completed a unique garden in 2004 after
applying successfully for a multi-cultural grant. |
| Students in Year 2 to Year 6 share an adventure
playground they co-designed with the playground manufacturer. Shade cloth
was added, as Kilsyth Primary School is a Sunsmart school. The hall,
playground and oval are in close proximity to allow for maximum
flexibility in planning physical education activities. Students wear wide
brimmed hats during terms one and four. |

|
Kilsyth’s facilities include a canteen, which
operates every Friday and a hall, which is used for school assemblies
every second Monday, Music and Physical Education, PMP lessons (Years Prep
and One) and special school assemblies. Community groups hire the school
hall for karate, dance and basketball. |
| In memory of our fire, a lone tree stands near the
main building. It was a special feature of our garden before the fire and
has been kept as a memory of the past.
Nearby
is our new multi-purpose building, used for Music, cooking, After School
Care and parent meetings. The building is equipped with a kitchen,
making it a valuable space for students and parents alike.

An important aspect of Kilsyth’s curriculum is
the development of Environmental Education. In 2003 a visiting artist
assisted Level 4 students in the production of a mural commemorating our
frog habitat area. In 2005 major works allowed for a more uniquely
designed area, revegetating it with local indigenous plants to attract
bird life. A specially designed butterfly area was also planted. An
outdoor classroom has been established to allow classes to visit and learn
in this area. |
